We have had such an amazing experience with this dental office. Everyone is so kind, welcoming, patient, and genuinely caring. They have gone above and beyond to make sure both my family and I feel comfortable and supported. Our daughter has recently had some issues along the way, and the entire team has been nothing but understanding, compassionate, and amazing with her. They have always taken the time to listen, explain things, and make sure she feels safe and comfortable. It means so much as a parent to have a dental team that treats your child with such patience and kindness. We are so grateful to have found such an incredible dental office. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist who truly cares about their patients! Thank you Dr Ghane and Team! ❤️🦷Posted on Google![]()

This morning I called 8:20, was greeted by office manager. After explaining my situation of loose upper right wisdom tooth that's swelling making it impossible to chew, she got me in for 8:30. Drove in before 8:30, did some minimal paper work and had my tooth extracted and left before 9:00, as I had my son to give a ride to work at 9. I recommend this Wilson East dental office highly. Hello Dr. Ghane, I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to you and your staff for the excellent care you provided this morning. It was very kind of you all, and I was truly impressed by how efficiently and professionally everyone worked together to remove my upper right wisdom tooth. The teamwork, organization, and compassion shown throughout the procedure were remarkable and greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your prompt attention and outstanding service. I am very grateful for the care I received. I also appreciated the reminder to renew my dental coverage, which has now been completed. Thank you for the thorough aftercare instructions as well. I'm pleased to report that there were no issues with bleeding or any other complications, and my recovery has been progressing well. Sincerely, PaulPosted on Google![]()

What Is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a treatment that saves a tooth when the soft tissue inside, called the pulp, becomes infected or inflamed. The pulp contains the nerves and blood vessels of the tooth, and when deep decay, a crack, or an injury lets bacteria reach it, the result is often severe pain and swelling.
During root canal therapy, our dentist carefully removes the infected pulp, cleans and shapes the inside of the tooth, then seals it to prevent further infection. A crown or filling is placed on top to restore full function. The tooth stays in your mouth, looks natural, and can last a lifetime with proper care.
At Wilson East Dental Care we perform most root canal procedures in house. For complex cases that call for specialised care, we refer to trusted endodontist partners in Hamilton.
Warning Signs You Need Root Canal Treatment in Hamilton & Ancaster
Root canal therapy is one of the most common dental procedures, with more than 14 million treatments completed each year. If your dentist in Hamilton has recommended root canal treatment, you’re not alone. Recognizing the warning signs early can save your natural tooth and prevent serious complications.
Our experienced root canal dentist at Wilson East Dental Care can evaluate your symptoms and determine if you need root canal therapy in Ancaster or Hamilton. Watch for these key indicators:
- A persistent toothache that does not go away, especially when you bite or chew
- Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold long after the food or drink is gone
- Sharp pain that wakes you at night or comes in waves
- Swelling, tenderness, or a small bump on the gum near the tooth
- A tooth that looks darker or greyer than the others
- A chipped or cracked tooth that exposes the inner layer
- A recurring pimple on the gum that leaks pus or has a bad taste
Deep cavities, repeated dental work on the same tooth, a crack, or trauma are the most common causes. Catching these signs early often makes the difference between saving the tooth and losing it.
If you notice any of these symptoms, contact our dental team right away. Our skilled dentist handles most root canal procedures, and for complex cases requiring specialized care, we work with trusted endodontists. As your family dentist in Ancaster, we also offer dental implants, teeth whitening, and dental veneer services.
When Does Root Canal Treatment Become Necessary?
Root canal therapy becomes necessary when the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected or inflamed. Common signs include a toothache that intensifies when you bite or chew, sharp sensitivity that lingers after hot or cold exposure, or visible gum swelling near the tooth root. These symptoms mean bacteria have reached the inner chamber of your tooth.
As your trusted emergency dentist in Hamilton and Ancaster, we offer same-day appointments for urgent cases. If you’re experiencing these warning signs, seeking prompt care is essential to save your tooth. Modern root canal treatment is comfortable and highly successful at preserving your natural smile.
Root Canal Procedure at Wilson East Dental Care Hamilton
1. Examination and digital X-ray. We assess the tooth, confirm the diagnosis, and show you exactly what we see.
2. Local anaesthesia. The area around the tooth is fully numbed so you feel no pain during treatment.
3. Removing the infection. A small opening is made in the tooth, and the infected pulp is carefully removed.
4. Cleaning and shaping the canals. The inside of the tooth is disinfected and shaped so it can be properly sealed.
5. Sealing the tooth. The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material that prevents new infection.
6. Final restoration. A crown or filling is placed on top to protect the tooth and restore normal chewing.
Most root canals are completed in one or two visits. Each appointment usually takes 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on which tooth is treated and how complex the canals are. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and return to normal activities within one to two weeks.
Affordable Root Canal Treatment in Hamilton & Ancaster
The cost of root canal treatment in Ontario depends on which tooth is treated and how many canals it has. At Wilson East Dental Care, our pricing is based on the Ontario Dental Association fee guide and is always discussed with you before treatment begins.
We accept all major dental insurance plans, including CDCP (Canadian Dental Care Plan) and refugee dental insurance. For patients without coverage, we offer flexible payment options to make root canal treatment affordable and accessible. Contact us today to discuss your specific situation and insurance benefits.

Root Canal Before and After
Root canal treatment takes a tooth that is infected, painful, and often visibly darkened and returns it to full health and appearance. Once the canal is cleaned and sealed and the final crown is placed, the tooth looks and functions like any other tooth in your smile.
Root Canal Recovery and Aftercare
Most patients feel back to normal within one to two days after a root canal. Mild tenderness around the tooth is common for the first 48 hours and is easily managed with over the counter pain relief.
What to expect:
- Slight sensitivity when biting for a few days
- Full return to normal activity usually within 24 hours
- Any lingering discomfort should fade over the first week
What not to eat after a root canal: until your final crown or filling is placed, avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods on the treated side. Skip nuts, ice, hard candy, popcorn, and chewy bread. Stick to softer foods such as pasta, eggs, yogurt, soup, and cooked vegetables for the first day or two.
Call us right away if pain increases after 72 hours, if swelling returns, or if the temporary filling comes loose.

FAQs About Root Canal In Hamilton
How long does a root canal procedure take?
Root canal procedures can take different amounts of time based on how complicated they are. Usually, they require one or two appointments lasting around 60 to 90 minutes each.
Is root canal therapy painful?
Root canal therapy is not as painful as people think. Thanks to modern techniques and anesthesia, most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure.
What are the alternatives to root canal therapy?
If you don’t want a root canal, you can choose tooth extraction. But be aware that this could cause more dental problems, and you may need dental implants or bridges to fix your smile.
What happens if I don't get a root canal?
If you don’t treat an infected tooth, it can result in more pain, swelling, and possible bone loss. It might also require extraction and more complicated procedures to fix your smile.
How long do the effects of a root canal last?
By giving the right care, a tooth that has undergone a root canal can stay healthy for a lifetime. This involves maintaining good oral hygiene and going for dental checkups on a regular basis.
How do I know if I need a root canal?
Common signs include a persistent toothache, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, gum swelling, or a darkened tooth. If you notice any of these, book an exam right away to avoid losing the tooth.
How much does a root canal cost in Ontario?
At Wilson East Dental Care, root canals typically range from about $800 for a front tooth to $2,100 for a molar, with the crown or filling priced separately. We follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide and give you a clear estimate before treatment.
Is a root canal covered by CDCP?
Yes, root canal treatment is covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan when it is clinically needed. We are a CDCP approved provider and will confirm your benefits before treatment begins.
What are the symptoms of a root canal infection?
Severe or throbbing pain, gum swelling, lingering sensitivity, a bad taste, or a pimple on the gum that leaks pus. An infected tooth will not heal on its own, so call our office as soon as you notice these signs.
What can I eat after a root canal?
Stick to soft foods for the first day or two, such as pasta, eggs, yogurt, and soup. Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods until your final crown or filling is placed.
How long does a root canal last?
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, a treated tooth can last a lifetime. A proper crown or filling placed on top is the most important step for long term success.
Can I drive home after a root canal?
Yes, most patients drive home with no problem since only the area around the tooth is numbed. If you choose sedation for anxiety, please arrange for someone to drive you.
Is a root canal better than pulling the tooth?
In most cases, saving your natural tooth is the better choice. It preserves bone, keeps your bite stable, and is usually faster and more affordable than an implant or bridge after extraction.
